Another good day..
Our conservation club met again this Saturday - not so many of us this time, but I hadn't really got the word around. Still we did some good work - and we found something really unexpected in the old shrub bed at the front of the school.... a frog!!!
- okay - not actually that one - but I couldn't hold the frog and run home to get the camera at the same time.
Afterwards we dug some new potatoes, cut some lettuces and picked some strawberries from my allottment, to share.
We are planning to meet again next week - (Sat 1st of July) - and then on the 1st of the month every month after that.
Our new conservation club had its first task this weekend Sat 17th of June. Altogether we had 14 children and adults - who did some great work clearing weeds and litter from the shrub beds and the front of the school, and replanting new plants that will be attractive to wildlife.
It was very hot and sunny, and thirsty work - but by the end of the morning we could see we had really made a difference.
I think that eventually we will settle down to running the conservation club once a month - but as week have so many plants to put out we will run another session next week (ten till one Sat the 24th).
Thanks to everyone that came along!
Meanwhile the children and staff at the school have been busy - and amnst other things they have planted out our lovely new orchard with apples, cherries and plums. Lets hope the children can resist picking the fruit until they are ripe - otherwise I think there will be a few sore tummies!
The Castledown Green Team have been working for a number of months now: recycling; collecting litter; and raising money for their projects.
Today they launched their Green Team Blog
which tells you more about what they do. This is very interesting already - and is the first school 'blog' set up by the pupils themselves - so well done Green Team!! - Dean
Dean will be starting a new job with the Environment Agency next week - but the project will continue - if you want to help why not join our new club?
